Absolutely Incredible Kids Day: A Sweet Reminder to Celebrate Your Amazing Kids

As parents, we know our kids are pretty incredible—but sometimes life gets busy and we forget to say it out loud. That’s exactly why Absolutely Incredible Kids Day® exists. Celebrated every year on the third Thursday in March, this special day is all about letting kids know how loved, appreciated, and amazing they truly are.

Whether your child just learned to ride a bike, helped a friend at school, or simply makes you smile every day, this is the perfect moment to pause and celebrate them.

And let’s be honest—if you ever doubt how wonderful your kids are, just ask their grandparents. They’ll happily remind you!

What Is Absolutely Incredible Kids Day?

Absolutely Incredible Kids Day® was created in 1997 by the youth development organization Camp Fire USA. The goal is simple but powerful: help children feel valued, confident, and encouraged by reminding them how important they are.

The organization encourages parents, caregivers, teachers, and community members to take time to write letters of encouragement to kids in their lives. These heartfelt messages help children build confidence and inspire them to keep striving to do their best.

Sometimes the smallest words of encouragement can have the biggest impact.

Why Celebrating Kids Matters

Kids thrive on encouragement. When children hear positive words about their character, effort, and accomplishments, it helps build self-esteem and resilience.

Absolutely Incredible Kids Day® is a reminder to slow down and celebrate all the little things that make our kids special—kindness, creativity, determination, and even the hilarious personalities that keep our homes full of laughter.

Sure, there may be moments when our incredible kids test our patience (tomorrow they might even go back to being a little mischievous), but today is about focusing on the good and letting them know how proud we are.

Fun Ways to Celebrate Absolutely Incredible Kids Day®

Looking for simple ways to make this day meaningful for your kids? Here are a few easy ideas families can try:

  • Write a handwritten letter telling your child why they are incredible.
  • Celebrate their accomplishments, big or small—from school achievements to acts of kindness.
  • Encourage their passions and remind them you believe in their dreams.
  • Leave surprise notes in their lunchbox or backpack.
  • Share what makes them special at dinner as a family.
  • Recognize other kids too—nieces, nephews, classmates, and friends.

You don’t need elaborate plans. Sometimes the most meaningful celebration is simply taking a moment to say, “I’m proud of you.”

Get Schools and Organizations Involved

Schools, youth groups, and community organizations can also make this day special by recognizing kids in their programs.

Some fun ideas include:

  • Handing out “Incredible Kid” certificates
  • Recognizing students for kindness or leadership
  • Encouraging teachers to write notes of encouragement
  • Hosting a quick celebration or appreciation moment during the day

A Fun Kid Fact

Did you know that the word “kid” actually refers to a baby goat? Luckily, this holiday isn’t really about celebrating goats—although they are pretty adorable too!

A Simple Reminder for Parents

Parenting can be busy, messy, and sometimes exhausting—but days like Absolutely Incredible Kids Day® remind us to pause and celebrate the joy our children bring to our lives.

Take a moment today to tell your child just how amazing they are. Those words may seem simple, but to a child they can mean the world.

Because every kid deserves to feel absolutely incredible.
